For adults, teens, and kids alike — you don’t need any previous experience or training to come study with us. With a variety of class options to choose from, we’re confident we have something to offer everybody!
1) Self defence.
Many people have felt the uncertainty of just what would they do in the event of a physical encounter in the street? You might add the bullying problem for school-aged kids and women’s concerns for their personal safety for this reason. If these are yours concerns, take control and try Brazilian Jiu-jitsu!
2) A new physical fitness activity.
Bored of lifting weights and the monotony of riding on a stationary bike, try a martial art as a new way to stay physically fit.
3) Always wanted to try taking a martial art.
Perhaps you’re fascinated by fight scenes in action movies or have always been intrigued by the discipline and respect of Traditional Martial arts.
4) Lose bodyfat and get in shape.
One former World Champion used BJJ to lose the extra weight she gained as a teenager, became a full time BJJ instructor & went on to win a world championship.
5) Positive addiction.
Some individuals involved in the BJJ scene are battling an addictive personality and looking for a positive outlet for their energy. Directing their negative energy into a positive activity like Jiu-Jitsu helps them stay away from self destructive behaviors. They know that their habit of showing up to jiu-jitsu class breaks the cycle of their addiction and allows them to start to see their potential.
6) MMA fan.
A number of UFC fans started to learn more about the technical aspects of MMA fights and have felt the urge to try a little grappling themselves. As you learn about grappling you develop a new appreciation for the submission aspects of MMA. Not everyone is going to enjoy full on MMA training but as we know at Gracie Barra Jiujitsu is for everyone!
7) Stress relief.
Training Jiu-Jitsu helps narrow your focus to pay attention to the present moment. If you’re not present, you give your opponent the advantage. Staying plugged into the present means you’re not thinking about what happened earlier or the things you need to do later. With this presence you give your mind the rest from stress it needs so it can work for you to cope with the issues you’re going through.
8) Training with friends.
Training with friends disciplines you to form a positive habit & allows you to experience the camaraderie & community benefits of BJJ – ‘Those who train as friends stay as friends’.
9) Self confidence.
All of us harbor private fears in life. Some feel acute social anxiety. Others feel insecure when dealing with confrontation. Martial arts in general are a time tested method of building self confidence and helping people interact in a more healthy manner with others.
10) Celebrities do it, it must be Cool!
The sport has gained a significant following among famous personalities due to its practicality, mental and physical benefits, and its strong community focus. Many Celebrities have become avid supporters of BJJ and have used their platforms to promote the sport and its values. The breadth of celebrities involved shows that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone!
